Lions Club was founded in 1917 by Melvyn Jones in Chicago, IL. To help address the needs of communities post-WW I.
In 1925, Hellen Keller challenges Lions to become “Knights of the Blind” in the Crusade against darkness.” Because of this, many of the primary objectives of the International Lions Club revolve around helping the blind and those with vision issues.
Our giving is primarily intended to help our local community,
so we do not usually support organizations that may have a global outreach. We are especially pleased to support
nonprofit organizations that are providing services to
families and children.
Providing support to Veteran's groups and events is very important to the Greater Arlington Lions Club.
Another category of support is our involvement with various scholarship programs.
Many of our members are also members of the Arlington Masonic Lodge and because of that, we work through their charity, The Arlington Masonic Benevolence Association,
to provide scholarships to worthy students
at the A.I.S.D high schools.
Our membership is made up of ladies and gentlemen who are passionate about making a difference in our community. Our purpose is to help organizations meet the needs of the people they serve. In addition we support each other though our weekly meetings which include friendship, fellowship and fun!
